About me:
You're extremely welcome to my blog!
I'm a 20-something year old, I come from Doolin in Co. Clare (Ireland), went to University in Limerick, have worked in Dublin, am now in Brussels - all the time I've been in a state of bewildermnet!
I've studied Law & European Studies (I speak Spanish & German), International Relations and recently completed a post as a Stagiaire (Trainee) in the European Commission.
I like books (touching them, looking at them, if not actually getting to read them) and have an obsession with politics (am a member of Fine Gael, Ireland's second biggest political party).
Besides all that, I have several letters of recommendation from my mother and other members of my family, so that's about as good a reference as one could get!
Statues of the world.
The Banner picture of my Blog is always a statue of the city where I am based. Below you can see some of the previous Banner pictures:
Jim Larkin, O'Connell Street, Dublin Ireland.
To the left is a picture I took of the statue of Jim Larkin on Ireland's main street - O'Connell Street. Jim Larkin was a trade union organiser, a champion of the poor working class of Ireland as well as being an inspirational speaker and leader. He played a large part in organising the watershed 1913 lockout.
A poem "Jim Larkin" by Patrick Kavanagh is quoted on the side:
And Tyranny trampled them in Dublin's gutter
Until Jim Larkin came along and cried
The call of Freedom and the call of Pride
And Slavery crept to its hands and knees
And Nineteen Thirteen cheered from out the utter
Degradation of their miseries.
The man from Atlantis
The Man from Atlantis statue is part of a fountain created in 2003 by sculptor Luk Van Soom. It is Located just in front of the Hilton at 38 Boulevard de Waterloo in between the Porte de Namur and Louise subway station. A closer look at this work of art seems to portrait oddly enough Donald Duck dressed in full scuba diving gear.
